Life in Lockdown – Relationships and Friendships

Hey,

I hope you are all having a good week in light of the lockdown lifting soon? It feels like the storm is finally over and we can see the sunshine, which sounds rather like an old R Kelly track I used to play!!!

This week I had the pleasure of receiving a zoom call invitation from Hollie. Zoom calls are very symbolic of lockdown life, along with home baking and learning new musical instruments 🤪

We have recorded it and uploaded it onto Soundcloud for you.

Without further a do, I would like to introduce our latest podcast. We are discussing Life In Lockdown, in particular Relationships and Friendships.

The pandemic has undoubtedly put a strain on most relationships. Unfortunately my marriage was over long before lockdown hit but this intense situation must have had an impact on everyone’s relationships. I would love to hear from you if your view differs? It is not a natural or healthy situation to be locked up with your partner and children 24 hours a day. I explain a little more about my personal situation in this episode.

Another impact of this pandemic has been the rise of abuse taking place behind closed doors. You only have to read the headlines about how perpetrators further isolate and harm victims. Again I speak a little bit about how I was victimised and supported by a local domestic abuse charity during Lockdown #1. It can be easy to miss the persistent undercurrent of abusive behaviour, I did for many years.

On a happier note, we speak about how friendships have played an important role in lockdown. Many of my close friends have supported me in my marriage breakdown, as well as my family and loved ones.

All it takes is a friend to send you a quick message to ask how you are. I see it as a temperature check. It is a huge to support to those who may be struggling or those who are suffering from loneliness.

Finally we discuss finding love in lockdown! Luckily I didn’t have to navigate the digital world to find my soul mate! I talk to Hollie about how I am finally smiling again after a very longtime.

My advice to all of my readers and listeners is this:-

Growth is painful, Change is painful, but nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong.

All my love,

Soph x
